Lau Kanaka no Hawai’i Hawaiian Civic Club of Arizona Granted 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Status

(Phoenix, AZ) Lau Kanaka no Hawai’i Hawaiian Civic Club of Arizona is proud to announce it is now officially a public charity with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. Contributions that are donated are fully tax-deductible. Lau Kanaka no Hawai’i Hawaiian Civic Club of Arizona is also now eligible to apply for government and foundation grants, which will further broaden its access to resources and strengthen its ability to serve the community. The IRS letter granting Lau Kanaka no Hawaii Hawaiian Civic Club of Arizona its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status is available upon request. Donation inquiries can be sent to: info@lknhaz.org.

Lau Kanaka no Hawai’i was established over 35 years ago to perpetuate the rich cultures of Polynesia, Pacific Islander, and Native American as well as spread the Aloha Spirit throughout the Valley of the Sun. It started as a social club back in 1982 and is responsible for the creation of the Arizona Aloha Festival 25 years ago. The Arizona Aloha Festival has now gone on to become one of the largest Polynesian cultural festivals on the continental U.S. with an attendance of more than 200,000 people over this two-day event that takes place every March!

The club offers monthly meetings filled with food, activities and fun, as well as lu’aus, educational workshops, cultural programs, scholarships, and other special events. Lau Kanaka no Hawai'i Hawaiian Civic Club Of Arizona

36th Annual Lūʻau Fundraiser –

Saturday June 1, 2019, 5:00PM – 8:00PM (Phoenix, AZ)

 

Lau Kanaka no Hawai'i Hawaiian Civic Club of Arizona will present its 36th annual lūʻau at the CrossRoads United Methodist Church (7901 N. Central Ave., Phoenix AZ, 85020) on Saturday, June 1, 2019.

This event includes traditional Hawaiian dance, and music with special guest entertainment by: Kuliaikapono, and the Sandwich Isle Ukulele Band. An authentic Hawaiian cuisine of kalua pig, fresh lomi salmon, Ahi poke, chicken long rice and Poi. Dinner includes drinks and dessert, lilikoi and guava cake.

Doors open for silent auction, while seating will begin at 5:00 PM. Welcoming ceremony and blessing of the lūʻau procession begins at 5:30 P.M., dinner service follows. There will be entertainment throughout the evening, door prizes and much aloha! All proceeds go to academic scholarships and the promotion of Hawaiian Civic and Cultural endeavors. The theme for this year is “Lana kākou i ka hau’oli o ha’i” (We rise by uplifting others).

Lau Kanaka no Hawai`i Hawaiian Civic Club of Arizona is a social/civic 501c (3) non-profit organization which in 2010 became a part of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, the oldest Hawaiian community- based grass roots organization founded in 1918 by Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana’ole.

Lau Kanaka no Hawai`i was founded in 1981 by a handful of Hawaiians that landed in the Arizona desert, hungry for some Hawaiian food and Kanaka friendship. Thirty-eight years later, and still going strong, membership exceeds more than two hundred.

Lau Kanaka no Hawai`i Hawaiian Civic Club of Arizona exists to perpetuate the rich cultures of Hawai`i and its surrounding Islands to spread aloha spirit throughout the Valley of the Sun. The club offers monthly general meetings filled with information on Hawaiian history, food, and more. Members also receive a first-rate monthly newsletter.

Lau Kanaka no Hawai`i is responsible for the creation of the Arizona Aloha Festival, which has gone on to become the largest Polynesian cultural festival on the mainland, celebrating its 25th year in 2019.
